Abstract: Between 1980 and 2010 the Colombian-origin population of the New York metropolitan area and its surrounding counties (see Map 1) increased from 74,141 to 225,603. (See figure 1). Over these thirty years Colombians increased marginally as a percentage of all Latinos in the region from 3.8% in 1980 to 5.0% in 2010.
