Abstract: This review considers empirical studies on student learning in mathematics for bilingual Latinas/os and examines how views of mathematics and language have constrained what we know about this population as mathematics learners. The purposes of the review are to describe views of mathematics and language evident in this research, critique these views in light of current research and theories, and propose recommendations for future research.
