Abstract: Using the world’s longest running survey of health data, the National Health Interview Survey, Jona Schellekens shows that the decrease in mortality from cardiovascular disease in the US postponed the decline in disability from the 1970s to the 1980s, whereas better education explains the long-term downtrend in disability that started in the 1980s.
