Title: Out Sick without Pay Missed Wages and Worker Absences during the COVID-19 Pandemic

Citation Type: Miscellaneous

Publication Year: 2022

Abstract: Many Americans live paycheck to paycheck, but COVID-19 infections and related caregiving obligations are causing many workers to miss out on wages. 1 The United States is one of the few countries in the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development that does not have national paid sick leave or paid family and medical leave providing full or partial pay for time off from work.2 As COVID-19 reinfections become more likely,3 a lack of paid sick leave and paid family and medical leave policies increasingly contributes to economic hardship, food insufficiency, and housing insecurity among workers and their families.
