Abstract: This paper surveys recent empirical studies on the economic impacts of immigration.Particular emphasis is given to the experiences of Northern Europe and Scandinavia. Thesurvey first examines the magnitude of immigration as an economic phenomenon in varioushost countries. The second part deals with the assimilation of immigrant workers in host-country labor markets and the use of social benets by immigrants. The survey thenconsiders the effect of immigration on the labor market outcomes of natives. The paperconcludes with studies of immigrations impact for the public sector of host countries.
