Title: Mexican Migration, Gender Differences and Geographic Dispersion in the 1990s

Citation Type: Conference Paper

Publication Year: 2009

Abstract: The present research seeks to shed light on change in the dynamics of Mexican migration to the United States and settlement processes in the 1990s, a time of tremendous growth in Mexican migration flows and greater geographic diversity in migrant destinations. Specifically, the investigation that follows assesses: (1) change in the kinds of migration flows within which male and female migrants arrive in the United States; (2) whether settlement in newer destinations of Mexican migration indicate change in male/female migration processes; and (3) the extent to which such settlement diverges from traditional patterns of male and female Mexican migration and whether the role that gender plays has changed.
