Abstract: Medical marijuana laws are examined as a shock to labor supply. The effects of medical marijuana laws are estimated through a change in an individuals income, usual hours worked per week, weeks worked per year, labor force participation, employment status, and worker availability. Federal and state laws, as well as state level legal decisions are briefly introduced and discussed. Then, medical and economics literature on marijuana are surveyed before my methodology, data, and results are introduced. I find statistically significant effects associated with legal access to marijuana with particularly strong effects for veterans.
