Abstract: This paper applies a migration choice model to examine what city amenities matter in attracting smart people. I find that young people with different education levels prefer cities with more population, a lower population density, more educated residents, a racially diverse population, lower income inequality, and a warmer winter. In contrast, less crime and better schools appear to be unimportant city amenities for each education group. Moreover, I also find that there is significant heterogeneity in the estimated marginal willingness to pay for some city amenities.
