Title: What Caused Black Men to Leave the Labor Force? Preliminary Findings

Citation Type: Miscellaneous

Publication Year: 2022

DOI: 10.2139/SSRN.4044306

Abstract: In this paper I try to explain what happened to young black men's labor supply during the XX century. After 1930, there is a black/white divergence that has not been properly explained. I show that common explanations like the black migration to the North and the Great Depression are unlikely to have produced the labor supply divergence. However, the New Deal could be a far better explanation.
