Abstract: Since 1990, a historical database of Belgian municipalities has been under construction at the Department of Modern History at Ghent University. Historical demographic and economic statistics at the level of municipalities for the period 1800-1961 have been systematically collected. Hundreds of historical maps have been digitized, representing the territorial structure of Belgium for the period 1800-2000.
