Abstract: Hanna Rosin has written that she hesitate[s] to get drawn into data wars (and suggested my blog to those readers who have an appetite for them).1 But statistics are not mere technical details, academic in the pejorative sense; they are reflections of reality numbers that represent characteristics of a sample which, if done right, reflect the population from which the sample is drawn.
