Abstract: This paper explores whether baby boomers might relocate from suburban neighborhoods to more centrally located areas as they retire. A robust approach to evaluate migrations by age groups is used to analyze Census micro-data over four censuses and twenty years for Canada's six largest cities. First, and original method is developed to classify spatial units as urban and suburban, next disaggregated data on movers is analyzed graphically, then with a trend analysis and finally through the use of logistic regression. Taken all together, results do not suggest that boomers will dramatically change previous patterns and move increasingly to the city.
