Abstract: This paper addresses two questions: do socioeconomic status and family circumstance mediate the adverse effects of childhood lead exposure, and if so, why? Although these questions might seem better suited to a public health literature, understanding how early-life conditions mitigate or worsen the adverse consequences of environmental insults has important economic implications.
