Abstract: Women in North Carolina face unequal employment practices, a lack of representation in leadership roles, and barriers to quality health care. Lawmakers must take steps to secure the economic security of women by prioritizing policies that promote equal pay for equal work; higher, livable wages; and access to reproductive health care to ensure the success of women and their families. Women need policies that reflect their roles as providers and caregivers. In North Carolina, mothers are the sole, primary, or co-breadwinners in 63.1 percent of families, and these numbers are higher for some women of color.1 The following policy recommendations can help support the economic security of women and families in North Carolina.
