Abstract: This dissertation presents three essays on the topic of the economics of education. In the first essay, I examine the importance of family shocks for student learning. In the second, I describe how the evolution of the Hispanic-white test score gap varies by immigrant generation. The last essay explores the racial divide in education and the labor market through evidence from interracial families.
