Abstract: Women have made significant progress in the U.S. labor market throughout the past century; as a result, a "grand gender convergence" has occurred in human capital investment and economic outcomes, such as labor force participation and earnings relative to men. There is, however, little doubt that gender inequality still exists in the U.S. labor market and society. The evidence of recent years shows that progress for gender inequality has "slowed down or even stalled in some respects".
