Title: A Descriptive Profile of the Multiracial Asian Population in the United States

Citation Type: Dissertation/Thesis

Publication Year: 2017

Abstract: This paper constructs a descriptive profile of the multiracial Asian population in the United States by focusing on the types of identity issues the population faces and their social implications for the population’s participation in U.S. society. Through an analysis of the literature, I identify the factors that are salient in the formation of identity in multiracial Asian individuals and what the emergence of this population means for the U.S. racial hierarchy. The findings support Bonilla-Silva’s (2004) view that we may be seeing the emergence of a tri- racial hierarchy in the United States.
