Abstract: This report focuses on temporary employees within the community of Lawrence, Massachusetts, and examines the barriers they face in obtaining permanent or better temporary employment. Using qualitative data collected in a series of interviews with these workers, the report concludes that lack of English language proficiency and the absence of bridging networks that connect job seekers to employers are the dominant barriers to employment improvement among the temporary workers interviewed.
