Abstract: The goal of these technical appendices is to provide detailed information on the methods, assumptions, and validation exercises we have undertaken in creating the California Poverty Measure (CPM). The key motivation for developing the CPM is to provide an arguably more accurate and comprehensive picture of poverty. This is no simple task, because the resources, expenses, and standards of living of California families must all be individually measured using a variety of data sources and methods. Indeed, this work is the product of a joint collaboration between the Stanford Center on Poverty and Inequality and the Public Policy Institute of California.
