Abstract: Using a Bayesian Spatial Autoregressive estimation strategy, we find that native born US residents and immigrants with no exposure to high school fail to migrate in response to state differences in the minimum wage. In contrast, both native born residents and immigrants with some high school and immigrant high school graduates migrate to states with higher minimum wage rates. Native high school graduates, however, do not migrate in response to minimum wages. We find support for the hypothesis that the different migratory response by native and immigrant high school graduates is due to immigrants greater willingness to participate in the non-covered labor market.
