Abstract: This dissertation is a collection of two independent essays on human capital in developing countries. In the first chapter, I investigate the labor market outcomes in Brazil and India and examine the effect of the frictions in the human capital accumulation and in the labor market on the aggregate output in these countries. The second chapter tests theories related to immigrant characteristics and their earnings by investigating immigrants in low-income countries.
