Abstract: The health care industry in the United States accounted for $2.7 trillion in spending in 2011. More people are employed in health care (including those working in the private and public sectors) than in any other private industry in the United States, accounting for 13% of the workforce. Job growth in the health care industry has been consistently positive, even during recessions. Between 2007 and 2013, employment in health care grew 10.7%, with 1.85 million new jobs, while all other industries declined 2.8%, losing 3.85 million jobs (Wright, 2013).
