Abstract: Labor market differences by skill, race, and ethnicity persist in the U.S. This dissertation investigates possible influences on labor markets of less-skilled workers and racial and ethnic labor market gaps. First, it asks how the 1986 immigration reform affected relative labor markets of less-skilled native workers. Second, it asks how relative labor markets of blacks are related to their relative arrest rates. Finally, it asks how immigrant status affected displaced worker labor market re-entry.
