Abstract: Through collaboration with student-researchers from Hartnell College, we have produced deliverables that we hope will meet the interests and needs of local nonprofits, educators, and city officials. We hope our research will contribute to the complex narrative of socioeconomic and race relations and urban development in Salinas. Ultimately, we hope that our research will uncover useful lessons in the history of Salinas and suggest areas of focus, both geographic and political, in which to improve social equity in the city today.
